This presentation describes Islamic archaeological sites located in Barus, North Sumatra. The site is in the form of five Islamic burial complexes consisting of Mahligai Cemetery, Papan Tinggi Cemetery, Tuan Ambar Cemetery, Tuan Ibrahim Syah Cemetery and Machdum Cemetery. All five cemeteries are located within the Barus District, at Penggahan Village, Aek Dakka, Bukit Hasang Village and Patupangan Village respectively. A total of 670 Islamic gravestones were discovered during the expedition. According to the inscriptions, several names have the title of Sheikh – a title used specifically for an Islamic religious teacher. These findings indicate that there had been a spread of Islamic teachings in Barus District around the 14th century.
