A year on after the Jewel of Muscat completed its voyage from Oman to Singapore, the reconstruction of a 9th century ship will finally be placed in a permanent home in the Maritime Xperiential Museum which will open in Singapore by the year’s end. (If you haven’t seen it already, last year I boarded the Jewel while it was docked in Georgetown, Penang – take a look here.)

Oman Tribune, 10 July 2011
The vessel Jewel of Muscat, will be displayed again in a new museum in Singapore during the second half of this year after one year from embarking at Singapore’s beaches.
A spokesman of the museum said: “The museum is scheduled to be opened in the second half of 2011. Before opening the museum, the sails of Jewel of Muscat, will be raised high to receive the guests. The museum will provide another chance to have a look on the Marine Silk Road history through Malacca Strait, as well as Asia ports and cities during the ninth and 19th centuries when explorers discovered the marine routes and touched their corners.
The museum will be a suitable place for Jewel of Muscat, which was presented to the Singaporean people as a Royal gift from His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said.
