via Tempo. 20 September 2022: The water management system of colonial Batavia was discovered during construction work in Jakarta.
MRT Jakarta on Tuesday discovered what is believed to be a relic from the colonial era where the city was known as Batavia and Sunda Kelapa. This accidental discovery came as workers continued with the phase two MRT construction that will connect Bundaran HI (HI roundabout) with Kota.
MRT Jakarta president director Mohamad Aprindy said a team from the National Archeology Agency will help oversee the phase two construction, “Because there are many ancient artifacts discovered in this phase two construction, which is believed to be from the Batavia, Sunda Kelapa era,” said the president director at Wisma Nusantara on September 20.
In December of 2021, MRT Jakarta discovered an ancient aqueduct and part of the Glodok Bridge Structure which is a suspected Cultural Conservation Object (ODCB) from the same aforementioned era.
