via Khmer Times, 29 June 2023: Experts from APSARA National Authority are working on the third phase of consolidating Angkor Wat’s Bakan tower by re-arranging unsafe stones to strengthen the damaged structure and preserve the Khmer architectural stonework.
The architect and supervisor of the Bakan Tower restoration site, Kham Mony, said that the third phase project to consolidate the Bakan Tower of Angkor Wat, in the southeast corner is divided into six parts. Work began on April 12, 2023.
He added that repairing and strengthening the corners in each of the two locations has now reached 40% completion.
Mony explained that in each location, there are missing stones and new stones need to be added to strengthen the structure, including to the stairs. The old stones, found in place and temporarily removed, will be returned to their original locations.
