via Khmer Times, 30 June 2023: APSARA National Authority is searching for ancient iron-making kilns at Angkor Archaeological Park to preserve them as historical sites and attractions, as these kilns were vital for manufacturing metal goods during the Angkor Empire.
“Many important objects used during the Angkor Empire were created using iron-making kilns. For example, they used these kilns to help manufacture iron objects for use in agriculture equipment, construction tools and for weapons,” Rithy said.
Rithy noted that authorities will not move any of the kilns to the museum when they find them. Instead, they will create a historical site to display the kilns in situ at their place of discovery.
“The ancient kilns were made from clay and they represent the highest value for Khmer people, for researchers, and they are interesting for tourists to visit at their original places,” said Rithy.
