via Global New Light of Myanmar, 16 August 2023: The Department of Archaeology and National Museum is conducting maintenance on ancient buildings in the Bagan Ancient Cultural Zone, including chemical weed cleaning and repairs following the Mocha storm.
“Maintenance works are carried out yearly and the scope of work each year is subjected to budget allotment. Bagan Archaeological Zone, which has more than 3,000 ancient buildings, has been divided into 11 sections and is being cleaned and beautified. The weeds clinging to the pagodas are removed using chemicals. In addition to normal maintenance schedules, the pagodas and temples affected by the Mocha storm in May has been repaired following UNESCO guidelines,” Dr Min Swe said.
