via Khmer Times, 19 September 2023: A unique two-storey structure with overlapping platforms of different designs has been discovered at Bayon Temple during restoration work, offering new insights into ancient Khmer architectural practices.
ANA announced yesterday the discovery of the structure, which was found while technicians were repairing and strengthening the third terrace of Bayon temple.
Meng Sovanlylin, an architect and technician working on the third terrace of the Bayon temple, said this was the second time that technicians had found a two-storey structure on the third terrace of the Bayon temple that differs from other ancient temples.
This structure has two overlapping platforms with one older than the other. The earlier platform is less decorative with only stone carvings while the platform built later is more decorative.
