via Khmer Times, 24 October 2023: The Royal Academy of Cambodia is set to publish a comprehensive book detailing Khmer clothing across 10 different historical eras. The 2,707-page research book, divided into two volumes, will feature 709 costumes and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The research involved extensive fieldwork, including visits to temples, museums, and discussions with elders knowledgeable about ancient attire.
Buth Samet, a member of the Commission for the Compilation of Cambodian Costumes, said that the research book is 2,707 pages long and divided into two volumes and will depict 709 costumes from 10 different eras: Nokor Phnom, Chenla, Angkor, Chaktomuk, Longvek, Oudong, French, Sangkum Reastr Niyum, Khmer Republic and the Democratic Kampuchea (Khmer Rouge) periods.
“The team included unique clothing styles of each period while those are similar or slightly different are not selected.”
He added that the research team of the Royal Academy of Cambodia has been researching and documenting for the book for the last two years and the book is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
