via Khmer Times, 07 December 2023: The APSARA National Authority and Sophia University have reinforced their long-standing partnership to further the conservation of Cambodia’s Angkor site. This collaboration focuses on training local experts and preserving the cultural and historical heritage of Angkor. A significant achievement of this partnership is the recent completion of Angkor Wat’s Western Causeway. The enduring relationship between the two institutions underscores their commitment to safeguarding the Angkor site for future generations, symbolizing a strong international partnership in cultural heritage preservation.
The meeting aimed to continue the joint efforts of the APSARA Authority and Sophia University, focusing on training human resources and promoting the training of national experts to support the conservation work at the Angkor site. Dr. Peou was grateful to Prof. Dr. ISHIZAWA for his long-standing support in preserving the Angkor heritage.
One of the key highlights of the meeting was the completion of Angkor Wat’s Western Causeway, which was officially inaugurated on November 4, 2023. The inauguration ceremony was graced by His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, King of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and marked an important milestone in the conservation efforts at Angkor.
