via Khmer Times, 25 December 2023: Preah Vihear province in Cambodia has witnessed a dramatic increase in tourism during 2023, with a 538% rise compared to the previous year. This surge is attributed to the province’s rich cultural and natural attractions, including World Heritage sites like Preah Vihear Temple and the recently listed Koh Ker archaeological site. Despite the rise in international visitors, domestic tourism at Preah Vihear Temple has slightly declined. The province’s tourism growth is hindered by limited services, particularly in accommodation and dining, highlighting a need for infrastructure development in this culturally and naturally rich region.
Kong Vibol, Director of Preah Vihear Provincial Department of Tourism, said that tourist numbers for Preah Vihear province have increased enormously. As of November this year, 538% more people have visited compared to the same period last year.
Vibol expressed optimism that the province will receive more tourists based on its tourism potential, especially because of its World Heritage sites, linked to the Angkor Archaeological Park, like Preah Vihear and Koh Ker temples.
However, the number of domestic tourists visiting Preah Vihear Temple as of November 2023 has decreased slightly compared to the same period in last year, according to Kong Puthika, Director-General of the National Authority for Preah Vihear.
