via Khmer Times, 27 February 2024: Wat Preah Hat Kbal in Pursat province has contributed significantly to Cambodia’s cultural preservation by handing over two Angkorian period artifacts and one French period artifact to the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts. These items, including rare large tiles and a water pot from the Angkorian era and a French army sword, will now be housed at the National Museum in Phnom Penh.
Wat Preah Hat Kbal in Pursat province has handed over two artifacts from the Angkorian period and one from the French period to the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts for preservation at the National Museum in Phnom Penh for the common good of the nation.
The handover took place after Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, accompanied by relevant authorities, on Thursday paid homage to Venerable Say Chivoan, chief monk of Wat Preah Hat Kbal, in Preah Hat Kbal village, Phteah Rong commune, Talo Sen Chey district.
The artifacts that were handed over to the Ministry of Culture include large tiles painted in a smooth brown layer, a rare type. The tiles are large and in good shape, never seen before. By analysing the shape of the earth, the decoration and the smooth layer, an expert team concluded that this large pot was made during the Angkorian period between the 12th and 13th centuries. The team is further analysing what it was used for.
