via various sources, 29 April 2024: The Guar Kepah Archaeological Gallery in Penang is poised for its completion in June, as announced by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. The gallery will showcase artifacts and skeletons, including those excavated from Guar Kepah between 1851 and 1934 and temporarily housed in the Netherlands. This project is part of a broader initiative to enhance archaeological tourism in northern Malaysia, linking significant sites like Fort Cornwallis, Bujang Valley, and Lenggong Valley.
The existing Guar Kepah Archaeological Gallery displayed a replica of the Penang Woman while the original skeleton is being preserved at the Universiti Sains Malaysia’s (USM) Centre for Global Archaeological Research (CGAR).
The state government is now in the midst of constructing a new Guar Kepah Archaeological Gallery at the site to display the Penang Woman and the remaining skeletons that will be brought back from Leiden.
