via various sources, 30 April 2024: It’s nice to know that discoveries like these can still be made at Angkor. During a recent excavation at Ta Prohm Temple, the APSARA National Authority’s Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology unearthed over 100 pieces of sandstone Buddha statues. The discovery, which includes statues of Buddha Sheltered by a Naga and Avalokiteśvara, was made while the team was cataloging scattered stone fragments on the temple’s grounds. The fragments, believed to be in the Bayon style, hint at the rich cultural layer still buried beneath the temple.
