via Khmer Times, 20 May 2024: Experts from the Apsara National Authority have restored over 200 fallen stones at Chorm Temple using traditional techniques. The project, in collaboration with Korean heritage organizations, aims to reassemble around 700 stones to reinforce the temple’s foundation. The restoration, initially paused due to COVID-19, resumed in 2021 and continues to advance, preserving the historic site’s integrity.
Architect Thai Yamang explained that many stones inside the temple had broken and fallen all over the temple area.
Some were found buried underground and others stacked on top of each other. The team documented and relocated these stones to outside the temple grounds for easier access during restoration.
Each stone is being carefully identified, measured, and classified based on its type, such as foundation stone, roofing stone, or wall stone, before being reassembled using traditional techniques.
Despite challenges like decay, breakage, and erosion affecting some stones, the team remains dedicated to meticulously restoring the temple.
