The 1.1km-long U-Pein bridge in Mandalay is being repaired after years of disrepair; thankfully, it looks like the plan to use concrete has been shelved and they are retaining the teak integrity of the bridge.

The famous U Pein Bridge in Mandalay is undergoing maintenance works, according to the Department of Archeology, Museums and Library.
The 160-year-old bridge is one of the country’s most stunning landmarks. It is the longest teak bridge in the world but has been in a state of disrepair for years.
“We are maintaining U Pein Bridge. As of March 18, decaying bridge floors, beams and pillars are being supplanted by wood. Brick and concrete will not be used for repair. Teak wood will be used for the bridge pillar that should be replaced,” said an official from the Department.
