Cuddled within the bend of Ayerwaddy River in central Myanmar sits a fascinating landscape comprising of over 3,000 ancient monuments scattered across thousands of hectares of farmland. Towards either end are towns that tie together the landscape like twists of a candy wrapper. These two towns Nyaung U and New Bagan have totally different stories to tell about their past. Today, however, both are competing for the tourists that have started to come in droves to experience this unique heritage site.
