This visual reference presents a chronology of major sites and events in the archaeology of Southeast Asia. As we go further back in time, the dates become less precise and for events that have a date range I tend to mark the oldest date on the timeline. As far as possible, each event is referenced with a key research paper, book or official website. This timeline draws on many sources, the most useful have been the large regional overviews such as Early Mainland Southeast Asia by Charles Higham, The A to Z of Ancient Southeast Asia by John N. Miksic, Early Kingdoms of the Indonesia Archipelago and the Malay Peninsula by Paul Michel Munoz, and Ancient Southeast Asia by John Miksic and Goh Geok Yian. Errors, however, are mine alone.
